What’s Been Happening At Our Nursery
A Trip to the Park!
As we strolled through the neighbourhood to reach our destination, the children were encouraged to observe their surrounding and talk about what they saw, such as homes, shops, trees, people walking their dogs and people of the local community.
At the park, we explored a range of development:
Develop coordination and balance
Strengthen gross motor skills
Practise turn- taking and teamwork
Build core strength and spatial awareness
The sunshine and fresh air were the perfect setting for our little ones!

Ice Melting Play with Our Curious Little Explorers
Our Tweenies team engaged in a sensory-rich ice melting activity.
Exploring temperature awareness and observing the process of the ice melting with the use of pouring warm water.
We added paint to the ice cube which began to freeze and we enjoyed watching the hidden surprise slowly emerge, this supports patience and focus and throughout, introducing descriptive words such as “cold, melting, ice” 🧊🎨

It was a super wet, rainy day! But WHAT A FOREST SCHOOL SESSION IT WAS!
The children got to experience their first time at nursery building a Lean To Tarp Shelter. This meant, using tarpaulin and rope, we tied it to the trees, with the top side higher, to allow the rain to drizzle down the tarpaulin and keep us dry while at base.
We then also went on an adventure to find the biggest muddy puddles ever! We got muddy and we loved it!

We got very messy making potions in the Tweenies room. We used baked beans, pink cornflour, sand and shaving foam and crushed weetabix!
We mixed up lots of different colours and textures in our bowls.
Every squish, pour and stir, helps build fine motor skills. We are improving hand-eye coordination without even realizing it with a whole load of fun!

FOREST SCHOOL IS UP AND RUNNING!! 🪵🌳
This week, our under 2s and Pre School group have ventured to Lightwater Country Park to complete their first outdoor sessions. Both groups experienced clay faces using natural materials and mud painting, again using the resources found in the forest.
Our Preschool children experienced their first forest school game called ‘1,2,3… where are you?’ (Forest school equivalent to ‘Hide & Seek’) Our Toddlers are ready for tomorrow!

Off to the moon we went! What a surprise to see moon dust and the room transformed into space! We invited the aliens for some lunch via our satellite telephone.

We are so pleased with our mud kitchen area for all age ranges to enjoy whilst out in our garden.
Mud kitchens get children outside and engaged with natural elements, fostering a love for the outdoors and environmental awareness.

How To Find Monkey Puzzle Lightwater
Monkey Puzzle Day Nursery Lightwater, is proudly located in the heart of Lightwater in the GU18 postal sector. The nursery is on Guildford Road, just over the road from The Red Lion and the Lightwater Post Office. The nursery is just a short walk from the town centre and close to both the A322 and the M3. This makes us well located for serving families in the town of Lightwater.
Opening times: 7:30am to 6:30pm
Monday to Friday for 51 weeks per year, (closed for the week between
Christmas and New Year)
